France 1943. Vichy France is now occupied France. Though the war carries on, so does murder. Detectives Jean -Louis St.-Cyr of the Surete and Hermann Kohler of the Gestapo are brought in to investigate the murders of four young, beautiful women, all of whom are the mistresses of high up officials. All have been murdered in different ways. As they investigate St.Cyr and Kohl find corruption at every turn and some people would rather they were not on the case at all. An unusual premise. I liked the characters, who worked well together, but the plotting could have been tightened up. At first it appeared that this was about the murder of one woman then suddenly it entered serial killer land. With a bit more work this author could be a major player. Worth checking out.
