Relationships appear to be a core factor in Silent Voices. Professor Charles Meredith is not too sure that he wants to have children. He sees it as being too much of a commitment. . Meredith would rather be researching his book about a Victorian crime of passion. Mia his partner on the other hand is desperate for children. There is also Lotte Graham who has only stayed married to her husband because of the children. But due to an accident with one of them, everything in her life changes especially when she finds out about his deceit. Finally, we have the loner, Claire Thompson who has a crush on Professor Meredith. She disappears the same night she brags about being taken to dinner by the Professor. Soon Charles is in a desperate search for the one person who can attest to the fact that he had nothing to do with Claire's disappearance. The police are also escalating their hunt for Claire before she becomes another statistic.
Silent Voices is a well-written psychological novel covering a number of issues in a well-drawn out manner. The intricacies between all the different relationships are well thought out and the storyline runs along fairly smoothly. There is not really much one can say about this novel without sounding trite and the resolution at the end did not come as much of a surprise. While it was not completely my cup of tea, the book is not outstanding but it has some good points and certainly worth reading.
