Devoted mother and high-flying barrister Clara Pascal had a perfect life. However, things are going from bad to worse when she finds herself kidnapped and kept hostage in a dark cellar chained to the wall without food, warmth and sleep. She doesn't even know why she has been kidnapped as her kidnapper refuses to tell her anything. As Clara begins to lose hope that she will ever be rescued the police are also frantic with worry, as it appears that she has disappeared and may not be alive.

Darkness Falls is a great testament to Margaret Murphy's story-telling abilities. This is a tense and scary psychological filled book that will have you on the one-hand pondering as to whether or not you should sit down and finish it in one sitting or drag it out so that you can savour it for as long as possible. It is this type of novel that readers of contemporary crime fiction are hankering for. It has the pace, force and suspense that will stay with you and in your mind for ages. The resolution is as stunning as one has come to expect from such a first-rate writer. Margaret Murphy gets better and better with each book. My only warning for this excellent book is that if you're claustrophobic then this is one book you shouldn't read in a confined space.
