Approximately 80 people turned up for an evening with Michael Connelly, in town to launch his new book, The Lincoln Lawyer. He started off explaining how he originally got into books as a young child alongside his brother, and remembered that it was To Kill a Mockingbird which may have been his biggest influence. After a potted personal history, Mike went on to explain how the latest book came into being; originally at a baseball game when he spent the whole match talking to an attorney who didn’t have an office but had a specially adapted Lincoln complete with a computer with internet access, fax machine and phone. Fascinated with this he developed the novel over the next four years, knowing that it was going to be a book about the law, with character over plot. After a short reading, there was a Q&A session which covered, amongst other topics, the new book, Harry Bosch, Clint Eastwood’s adaptation of Blood Work and whether or not Mickey Haller will return. Mike handled the evening very well and gave the audience an entertaining hour in his company. Fans then waited patiently in line to have their copies signed, which took another thirty minutes to complete.
