Murder, lies, family secrets, and local corruption are on the menu in A Taste for Murder. Throw into the mix, some surprises, food, the beauty of Capri, delicious recipes, twists, and turns. This novel cooks up a tasty dish to enjoy.
Newly widowed DCI Joe Mottram and his teenage daughter Angelica arrive on the island of Capri. They are staying in his late wife’s childhood home where her parents still run a popular beach side restaurant, Da Vinale's. The perfect place to bond and try to repair their relationship.
When a British tourist, Shannon Headley is found dead at the bottom of Tiberius’s Leap, a local landmark near Da Vinale’s. Joe’s hopes of a recuperative holiday are shattered. Shannon Headley’s father has a TV show in the UK, Crime and Law Enforcement. Strings are pulled and Joe finds himself helping the Italian police. He needs to find a way to work with stubborn local detective Lara Sarrancino and navigate the Italian police system.
Because the next murder might be even closer to home.
Joe is at a party when Zuzo Esposito, masseuse and part time waitress is murdered in the same way as Shannon. As Joe is consumed by drug dealing, corruption and gangsters as he exposes the dark side of the island and that the people he loves are threatened.
I did try some of the recipes that I cooked in the course of the book, delicious. A Taste for Murder is a beautifully written novel with superb characterisation. The pace of the plot meanders and races along. The ending satisfies and intrigues. I look forward to more books as well as the TV series.
