This one fizzes from the get-go. Mostly narrated by a middle-aged dad who’s presented with a fait accompli when his daughter brings home her new boyfriend for the first time, and declares she’s engaged, the wedding to be in short order.

Ed the dad, is not pleased. The young man is tall, dark and handsome. Charming. Well educated, decorated ex-military. The perfect catch, so why does Ed dislike him on sight? There’s obviously deep, dark secrets in the family, and slowly, one by one, they are revealed as the wedding day looms larger, Ed desperately seeking reasons to sabotage the big day as his obsession spins out of control, affecting his job, marriage and relationship with his daughter.

Finally, in desperation, not sure if the new son-in-law is on the level or not, Ed goes to a PI for help, but too late.

If there were summer holidays this year, I’d recommend a place for The Catch in every suitcase. But as things are, a perfect lockdown read, with (literally) a killer ending. But who’s the victim?
